Ofcom has written to all amateur radio licence holders advising them of changes to the Wireless Telegraphy Act licences requiring all spectrum users (including all radio amateurs) to comply with the ICNIRP (International Commission on Non-Ionising Radiation Protection) general public limits on EMF exposure. The proposed change can be found in a statement summarising Ofcom’s position after the two consultations – more information can be found on their web page ofcom.org.uk/emf.
The licence change will be implemented by 18 May 2021. Compliance is not required until November 2021 for frequencies above 10MHz or May 2022 for frequencies below 10MHz.
RSGB EMC Chair John Rogers, M0JAV demonstrates in this video how to use the RSGB/Ofcom calculator to calculate EIRP from practical station parameters. Links to the calculator are available in our Links page but it is better to go via the RSGB EMF pages to ensure you have the most recent version of the spreadsheet
