This Tuesday 8th December 2020 at 21:00 the Isle of Avalon ARC will trial an 80m Data net for the South West of England, using NVIS.

All interested Radio Amateurs and SWLs are invited to participate. Starting with Olivia 16/500 on 3.584MHz (Data in USB), the net will be run by Richard G7LEE and Martin G5FM.

The purpose of the experiment is to see whether it is possible to run an effective data network using the 80m band for the South West of England as part of Wessex Ham’s development across the region, which theoretically should give full coverage over the region using both ground wave and Near Vertical Incidence Skywave propagation.

The critical frequency falls at night, so 80m is not a bad choice for an evening net, however, skip will greatly increase QRM on 80m at the 9pm slot.
