The Special Events Team of Mark M0SKV and Greg MW7BUF have been busy behind the scenes preparing for the following Special Events and Contests which we hope to have many members from the Club participate in.
The THird THursday meeting in April spent time discussing these events and noting the dates and venues but as not everyone was present and because we want to return to more frequent Social Media postings this post has been put together to provide a summary of the events in question.
Special Events usually commence operation around 10:00 – 10:30 with the hour or so before that being used for site establishment and run until about 16:00 – 16:30 depending on activity and conditions with an hour or so after that for site deconstruction and packing. Typically at weekend events larger items such as antennas are left in situ overnight to reduce the Saturday “knock-down” and Sunday “set-up” time. Contests depend on the contest rules and further information about the detailed plans for these events will be issued nearer the event.
We encourage all members to make a note of the dates and venues and make plans to join these activities and participate in operations, even if only for a couple of hours. Typical tasks include:
- Operating (usually SSB HF but if there is enough people/kit possibly digi-modes, CW or VHF)
- Logging and checking off the other participating stations
- Helping with set-up and take-down
- Photography
- Videography
- Sound recordings
- Explaining and Promoting Amateur Radio to visiting members of the public
- During event Social Media posts
- After event reports to RadCom etc.
- After event video editing
- Website after action report
