Amateur Radio Demonstrates Science, Technology, Engineering and Matemeatics to Year 6 Students

17 March 2023 – Southville Primary School

British Science Week LogoA big thank-you to (in no particular order): Kevin 2E0AWX, Dan 2E0IGS, Ken G4XCB, Andy G7KNA and Anna who took part in a British Science Week 2023 (BSW) event at Southville Primary School on 17 March 2023.

British Science Week is a ten-day celebration of science, technology, engineering and maths. This year’s theme – “connections! This, obviously, resonates (pun intended) with Amateur Radio and when the Club was contacted about putting on a demonstration of Amateur Radio as part of the Schools STEM curriculum we were more than happy to oblige.

We set up:

  • An introductory presentation covering aspects of radio waves
  • A HF SSB station
  • UHF FM SSTV
  • PMR 446 Handhelds

We have submitted a report to RadCom about our participation which we understand will be published in the forthcoming edition of the RSGB Magazine in a report from around the country showcasing the BSW activities of active clubs.

We’ll be updating our website with more details of our collaboration with Southville Primary School after the article has been published in RadCom.
